In Memory

Johnie Riola (Asst Principal)

From the University of North Texas website:

JOHNIE RIOLA – As the quarterback of the Eagles in 1939 and 1940, he led North Texas to Lone Star Conference titles both seasons. He was selected to the all-conference team both years and in 1939 was voted to the Little All-America squad. He later became head coach at Waco High School, where he guided the team to a state championship in 1948.

I never had an issue with Mr Riola. He stood by me in a family crisis and with his help I remained at WHS ( I was in the Richfield district ) for which I am grateful for. He was a very good man. If I had only known of his involvement in the military I would have loved to sit down and hear all of his stories of each campaign he was in. I left Waco the year I graduated and never looked back. Sadly, I also missed the news of a lot of my WHS teachers / staffs deaths. God rest your soul Mr. Riola.
