Hello all 1971 Waco High classmates. Eddie Sherman here. I wanted to advise that we are in the tentative planning stages for our 50 year class reunion that will be coming up next summer. Final planning will be dependent on the status of Covid-19 in the coming year and whether or not there are still heavy restrictions in place as for as mask-wearing, social distancing and gathering limits. It won't be much fun if we still have to do these things.
Our tentative plan right now is to have our Saturday night dinner and dance (if we can all still dance at our age) on June 12, 2021 at the Waco Convention Center (Texas South Rooms). We are on the convention center's calendar for that day, but they won't let us sign a contract until after the first of the year because of the current limitations they have in place now.
We will also have an informal get-together on Friday night (June 11, 2021) at Crickett's Bar & Grill which is also downtown across from the Convention Center. Saturday morning and afternoon will be a free time for everyone to do as you please (maybe a visit to the Magnolia Silos).
The Convention Center will also help us secure a block of rooms at both the downtown Hilton and Marriott Courtyard when the time comes. Both of these are adjacent to the Convention Center.
We are planning on having a sit-down dinner on Saturday night but the caterer has not yet been decided on. We will also have a DJ for music (1972 classmate Tim Riley) and a cash only bar..
As we get into next year and are able to make some final plans, again dependent on Covid-19, I will keep you advised and will then be able to advise a cost per person to cover our expenses.
So please mark that weekend on your calendars and I hope we get as many as we can to come. After 50 years, this may be our last formal reunion, so please make plans now to come.
I hope this gets to everyone as our email list is from our 40 & 45 year reunions. As you see or talk to other classmates yourself, please let them know also.
Your Class President,
